What about the Critics?

Throughout history, every true move of God has been bitterly opposed and severely criticized. During the past year or two, the "Toronto Blessing" has certainly had its share of critics and opponents. Nevertheless, the objections of the critics have been answered to the satisfaction of most (although not necessarily all) of those who truly hunger and thirst after God.

Here are some good references which handle specific objections:

Derek Morphew, "Renewal Apologetics" (A Position Paper). This paper is a response to many of the most vocal critics, particularly those in New Zealand and in the U.K. Available from the bookstore of the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship. Phone: 416-674-8463

Richard M. Riss, Letter to James Beverley, responding to some of the comments in his article, "Toronto's Mixed Blessing," in Christianity Today (September 11, 1995), and his book, Holy Laughter and the Toronto Blessing. Although Dr. Beverley has said many positive things concerning the Toronto Blessing, he has also offered some criticisms. But has he criticized the right things? Richard has also written some other Letters in Defense of the Revival. One of them is a ten-paged single-spaced letter to Randy Clark, in answer to his request to respond to Hank Hanegraaff, one of the most vocal critics of the renewal/revival.

Don Williams, Revival: The Real Thing (La Jolla, Ca.: Coast Vineyard, 1995). This book is a response to Hank Hanegraaff. Available from the TACF Bookstore.
